There can be little doubt that this book was written by James the half-brother of Jesus (230 words of this letter closely resemble the words of James in his message at the Jerusalem Council—Acts 15:13–21). The book of James is considered to be the earliest of all the New Testament epistles. It was probably written some time between AD 45 and 50.
